How My Journey Shaped Dear Oaklyn

How My Journey Shaped Dear Oaklyn

Everything I make for Dear Oaklyn comes from a really personal place.

It’s a mix of my background as an esthetician, what I’ve seen work and not work, and honestly just being a mom and wanting something better for my own home.

Where this started for me

I started out working as a medical esthetician in dermatology.

I treated everything from acne to rosacea, eczema, hyperpigmentation, a lot of more reactive or compromised skin. That experience taught me really quickly that skin isn’t something you can force. You have to understand it, work with it, and respect how different it is from person to person.

Later on, I moved more into holistic esthetics and worked alongside acupuncturists. That’s where things really shifted for me.

I saw how much the skin responded to slower, more supportive approaches. Herbal infusions, simple ingredients, treatments that focused on calming instead of correcting. It changed the way I thought about results completely.

How Dear Oaklyn came out of that

Then becoming a mom made it even more real.

I started looking at everything I was putting on my skin and my daughter’s skin every day, and a lot of it just didn’t sit right with me. Too many ingredients, too much fragrance, things that felt unnecessary, especially for sensitive skin.

I wanted something simple, something I could trust without thinking twice.

That’s where all of this came from.

Why I use tallow + whole herbs

One of the main ingredients I work with is bison tallow.

It’s incredibly compatible with our skin, so it absorbs well and actually helps support the skin barrier instead of just coating it. It’s rich, but not heavy in the way people expect, and it works for a lot of different skin types.

From there, I slowly infuse whole herbs into the oil. Calendula, chamomile, marshmallow root, things that are known for calming, soothing, and supporting the skin.

I don’t rush that process. The slow infusion is what allows the full plant to come through, not just one isolated part of it.

Why I keep it simple

Sensitive skin is something I understand really well, both from working with clients and in my own life.

A lot of the time, the issue isn’t that your skin needs more. It’s that it’s overwhelmed.

Too many products, too many actives, too much trying to fix it.

So I keep everything as simple as possible. Every ingredient has a reason for being there. No added fragrance, no unnecessary fillers, nothing that’s going to disrupt the skin more.

What I want these products to do

I’m not trying to create quick fixes.

I want to support your skin so it can actually function the way it’s supposed to. To help calm things down, restore balance, and give it what it needs to repair over time.

Everything is made in small batches, by hand, with ingredients I trust and use myself.

This brand is really just an extension of everything I’ve learned and what I believe works.

Simple, whole, intentional skincare that you can feel good about using on yourself and your family.
